Chevrolet Captiva Service & Repair Manual: Alternator, Replace

Refer to Fig. 1 for alternator replacement.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove drive belt, as follows:
  a. Remove air cleaner assembly.
  b. Remove righthand engine splash shield.
  c. Rotate drive belt tensioner to release drive belt tension, using a suitable tension reliever tool.
  d. Remove drive belt from pulleys and tensioner, Fig. 2.
3. Disconnect alternator electrical connector.
4. Remove alternator battery positive nut (1), Fig. 1.
5. Remove alternator mounting bolts (2), Fig. 1.
6. Remove alternator (3), Fig. 1.
7. Reverse procedure to install, note following:
  a. Torque alternator battery positive nut to 15 ft. lbs.
  b. Torque alternator mounting bolts to 16 ft. lbs.
