Chevrolet Captiva Owners Manual: Tire Pressure for High-Speed Operation

Chevrolet Captiva Owners Manual / Vehicle Care / Wheels and Tires / Tire Pressure for High-Speed Operation

Warning

Driving at high speeds, 160 km/h (100 mph) or higher, puts an additional strain on tires.

Sustained high-speed driving causes excessive heat buildup and can cause sudden tire failure.

You could have a crash and you or others could be killed. Some high-speed rated tires require inflation pressure adjustment for high-speed operation. When speed limits and road conditions are such that a vehicle can be driven at high speeds, make sure the tires are rated for high-speed operation, in excellent condition, and set to the correct cold tire inflation pressure for the vehicle load.

Vehicles with P235/55R18 size tires require inflation pressure adjustment when driving the vehicle at speeds of 160 km/h (100 mph) or higher.

Set the cold inflation pressure to the maximum inflation pressure shown on the tire sidewall, or 262 kPa (38 psi), whichever is lower. See the example following.

Return the tires to the recommended cold tire inflation pressure when high-speed driving has ended. See Vehicle Load Limits on page 9-10 and Tire Pressure on page 10-44.

Example: The maximum load and inflation pressure is molded on the tire sidewall, in small letters, near the rim flange. It will read something like this: Maximum load 690 kg (1521 lbs) 300 kPa (44 psi) Max. Press.

For this example, set the inflation pressure for high- speed driving at 262 kPa (38 psi).

For high-speed operation in the 2014 Chevrolet Captiva, it's crucial to maintain the recommended tire pressure as specified by the manufacturer. The tire pressure requirements can vary based on factors such as the vehicle's load, speed, and driving conditions. Generally, higher speeds necessitate higher tire pressures to ensure optimal performance, handling, and safety.

The recommended tire pressure for high-speed operation can usually be found on a sticker inside the driver's side door jamb, in the vehicle's owner's manual, or on the tire information placard. It's essential to adhere to these recommended tire pressures to prevent issues such as uneven tire wear, decreased fuel efficiency, and compromised handling at high speeds.

Regularly checking and adjusting tire pressure, especially before extended high-speed driving, is essential to maintain vehicle stability, tire longevity, and overall safety on the road. If unsure about the recommended tire pressures or how to check them properly, consulting the owner's manual or a qualified automotive technician is recommended.
