Chevrolet Captiva Service & Repair Manual: Quarter Panel

Section in specified areas only. Sectioning outside of these areas may compromise the structural integrity of the vehicle. The door frame can be replaced at factory seams, but requires the removal of the windshield and the roof. The sectioning procedures have been developed as a more cost effective alternative to complete replacement. The specific area to be sectioned is determined by the extent of the damage to the vehicle.
Warning: Foam sound deadeners must be removed from areas within six inches of where flame is to be used for body repairs. When reinstalling foam sound deadeners, avoid inhaling fumes as bodily injury may result.
Do not damage any inner panels or reinforcements.
In any area damaged beyond recognition, or if structural weld thru adhesive is present, space the plug weld holes 1 1/2 inches apart.
To create a solid weld with minimum heat distortion make one inch stitch welds along the seam with one inch gaps between. Then go back and complete the stitch weld.

To remove and install the quarter panel on a Chevrolet Captiva, start by ensuring the vehicle is securely stabilized on a flat surface with appropriate safety measures in place. Begin by detaching any components connected to the quarter panel, such as trim pieces and door handles. Carefully mark and identify the welds or seams holding the panel in place. Using suitable tools like a spot weld cutter or cutting wheel, carefully sever these connections without damaging surrounding panels or structural integrity. Once the old quarter panel is removed, verify the fit and specifications of the new panel before aligning and securely attaching it to the vehicle's body using welding techniques or adhesive and fasteners, following manufacturer guidelines closely. Conduct a thorough inspection post-installation to ensure proper alignment and integration with the rest of the vehicle's body.
